Bass drums are frequently produced from one bit of tree trunk, usually mango or cedar, which can be hollowed out by both lathe or hand. Older, more substantial drums ended up product of the dense but light-weight pounds cottonwood tree which is never uncovered today. Some bass drum shells are ma
